As written previously, I cannot stress enough, that building a positive client-therapist relationship is the tallest priority. It's important for me to come with a great deal of empathy of your situation and make you feel at ease and able to speak without any judgement. It is also important to give power to the client and ensure that the process of therapy is collaborative and not one-sided or solely steered by the clinician. Below are some examples of therapeutic approaches I may integrate into the therapy if the client is interested.

01.

The philosophy behind CBT is that our thoughts lead to feelings, which lead to behaviors. For example someone may have a fear of driving, because they always think they will get into a car accident. These thoughts lead to feelings of fear and anxiety, which translates to the behavior of avoiding driving completely. If we were to break down the odds of an accident actually occurring and change the thought process into a healthier positive outlook, then the rest would follow. CBT is also very effective for those suffering with anxiety and depression.

02.

Schema therapy was developed in the 80's and is very similar to CBT. The difference is that it more so works to explore the past and childhood memories that made us adopt certain negative thought patterns. These thought patterns may seep into our everyday life, whether it be in our relationships, career or individual perceptions of the world.

03.

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is another mental health treatment technique. This method involves moving your eyes in a specific way while you process traumatic memories. EMDR's goal are to help you heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. Virtual therapy EMDR can be just as effective and may involve tapping the shoulders back and forth, while processing a trauma. It can also be used for anxiety as well.

04.

Gestalt theory aims to shift our awareness to the present moment in order to explore what current environmental factors our governing our thoughts and feelings. By being in the now we can gain a higher sense of freedom and self-direction.

05.

Hypnotherapy is a tool I use with any adult clients that desire it. Integrating it into therapy begins with demystifying what is it not (in greater detail than here). It is not mind control. It is simply a guided meditation that actually puts the client in the drivers seat. Hypnosis allows you to be more open to suggestions to make healthy changes in your life. It can be used successfully to treat anxiety, phobias, addictions (such as food or smoking), reduce chronic pain among many other things.
